1 Get out an explore the Old Town and wander its Medieval streets, which is now home to eclectic boutiques and restaurants.
2 In many of the bouchon restaurants, you'll find numerous andouillette dishes, but approach them cautiously. They are quite strong and definitely an acquired taste.
3 In Lyon, you can visit the ruins of the oldest Roman theater in France, along with the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilisation.
4 For a grim, but interesting, history lesson, be sure to visit the Centre d'Histoire de la Resistance et de la Deportation. It's housed in the same building that the Gestapo called home during World War II.
5 If you want to experience Lyon nightlife, head to Ninkasi, which boasts an onsite microbrewery and regular live music.
6 For the best views of the city, head to the hilltop Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere, but don't spend all of your time looking down. Be sure to stop and admire the opulent building itself.
7 If you're a music lover, check out Lyon in May when it hosts the Nuits Sonores electronic music festival.
8 Lyon is a food-lover's paradise. There are nearly two thousand restaurants in the city, and twenty-two of them are Michelin-starred.
9 A lovely way to spend a day in Lyon is to visit the Parc de la Tete d'Or, an ornamental park complete with a boating lake. It's just next to the Musee d'Art Contemporain. Spend the morning basking in the sunlight in the park, then head over to the museum in the afternoon.
10 Art lovers must see the Musee des Beaux-Arts, which is home to works from Degas and Cezanne and many others.
