1 You should never visit Geneva without sampling some of Switzerland's famous chocolate, and an excellent place to do that is Gilles Desplanches. It's hard to miss with its bright pink facade, and the treats inside are delicious.
2 Anyone with an interest in science should visit CERN, the world's largest particle physics lab and also home of the Large Hadron Collider. Admission is free, but you must book tours in advance.
3 You'll find that Geneva is one of Europe's most international cities, as it is home to the European UN headquarters.
4 For a quick day trip outside the city, you can take a boat through CGN Boats to the lakeside village of Yvoire.
5 Another great way to explore Geneva is by taxi-boat. Get a transport card, and the Mouettes Genevoises are free to use and depart every ten or thirty minutes.
6 One of the best ways to see the city is by bike. They are available to rent from Geneve Roule
7 If you plan on taking a tour of the Palais des Nacions, be sure to take your passport, as proof of identity is required.
8 Don't bother taking a taxi from the airport into the city center. It's expensive, and train fare is free is you pick up a ticket in the baggage reclaim hall.
9 When you arrive at your hotel. be sure to pick a Geneva transport card. They're free for guests and can be used for all public transport in the city.
10 For a hotel that is definitely a bargain option, book a room at the Hotel de La Paix, where you can stay in a luxurious room overlooking the lake. It also has an excellent onsite restaurant.
